Hair Transplant

A hair transplant is a surgical procedure that moves hair follicles from one part of the body (called the “donor area,” usually the back or sides of the scalp) to another part where hair is thinning or balding (the “recipient area”)

It’s a permanent solution for hair loss and can significantly improve hair density and overall appearance.

Types of Hair Transplant

  • FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation)

    • A strip of scalp is removed from the donor area, and individual follicular units are separated and implanted.

    • Leaves a linear scar but allows transplanting many grafts in one session.

  • FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction)

    • Individual hair follicles are extracted directly from the donor area using a micro-punch tool.

    • Minimal scarring, faster recovery, but may take longer to perform.

2. Steps in the Procedure

  1. Consultation & Planning – Assess hair loss pattern, donor hair quality, and set expectations.

  2. Preparation – The scalp is cleaned, local anesthesia applied.

  3. Extraction – Hair follicles are taken from the donor area (FUT or FUE method).

  4. Implantation – Follicles are carefully placed in recipient sites at a natural angle.

  5. Post-Procedure Care – Antibiotics, anti-inflammatory medicines, and instructions for washing.

3. Recovery Timeline

  • 1–2 weeks – Scabs fall off; redness subsides.

  • 1–3 months – Transplanted hair may shed (“shock loss”) before regrowing.

  • 4–6 months – Noticeable new hair growth.

  • 12–18 months – Full results are visible.

4. Benefits

  • Permanent, natural-looking hair.

  • Low maintenance once healed.

  • Boosts confidence.

5. Risks & Considerations

  • Infection, swelling, scarring.

  • Uneven hair growth if poorly done.

  • Requires good donor hair supply.
